Congratulations on your engagement! Now that you’ve said “yes,” it’s time to dive into the scary yet exciting world of wedding planning. To keep things organized and fun, we’ve crafted an in-depth to-do list that covers everything from the big decisions to the delightful details. Let’s get started!

1. Set the Stage: Budget and Vision
Create a Wedding Budget: Sit down with your partner and list all possible expenses (venue, food, attire, etc.). Don’t forget to include a buffer for unexpected costs!
THIS NUMBER WILL CHANGE! That's normal, but it is a good idea to have a good ballpark.
Pinterest boards are your new bff, magazines, and even YouTube. What’s your theme?
Rustic, classy, Boho, Beach...
What are your colors? This will guide all your decisions, from venue to decor.
2. Build Your Guest List
Draft the Guest List: Start compiling names. It is important to have an idea before seeing venues, the first thing they are going to ask is how many people you are having and if they have a 200-person minimum but your list is just over 80 you are going to put yourself in a tight spot, then before you know it you're inviting the amazon driver and the barista from Starbucks.
3. Choose the Date and Venue
Pick a Date: Choose a few potential dates and consider any significant events or holidays that might conflict. Unless you're in a Hallmark movie no one wants to go to a wedding the day after Christmas.
Research Venues: Create a list of potential venues that match your vision and budget. Schedule tours and ask about packages, availability, and what’s included.
4. Assemble Your Dream Team
Hire Vendors: Research and book key vendors:
Photographer/Videographer *cough … The Valentine Collective... cough cough
Caterer
Florist
DJ/Band
Wedding Planner (if needed)
Check Reviews and Recommendations: Look for vendors with great feedback and ask friends for referrals.
5. THE FAIRYTAIL DRESS!
Start Dress Shopping: Make appointments at bridal boutiques and keep an open mind. Bring your favorite people along for support!
Consider Accessories: Don’t forget about shoes, jewelry, and a veil or headpiece!
6. Create Your Wedding Party
If you are anything like me then you've had your crew picked a long time ago, Choose Your Squad: Select your bridesmaids and groomsmen. Be sure to ask them personally!
Plan Their Attire: Decide on colors and styles that fit your wedding theme.
7. Plan the Ceremony
Select Officiant: Choose someone who resonates with you as a couple, whether it's a religious leader, friend, or professional officiant.
Write Your Vows: Get personal! Start drafting vows or find readings that reflect your relationship.
8. Send Save-the-Dates
Design Save-the-Dates: Create a cute design that matches your theme, and send it out to let guests know the date.
These normally get sent out 6-9 months before the wedding. If your wedding is two years away don't send them out two years in advance, people will forget.
9. Taste Test the Menu
Schedule Tastings: Work with your caterer to sample menu options. Consider any dietary restrictions and be sure to have a range of choices.
10. Nail Down Décor and Style
Choose Your Décor: Think about centerpieces, table settings, and lighting. You can DIY some items for a personal touch!
11. Organize Entertainment
Book Entertainment: Whether it’s a band, DJ, or unique performance, make sure to discuss playlists and any must-play songs.
Consider Fun Add-Ons: Think about photo booths, caricature artists, or other interactive elements.
12. Finalize Invitations
Design Invitations: Choose a style that matches your theme and includes all necessary details.
13. Plan for the Honeymoon
Book Your Getaway: Research destinations, book accommodations, and finalize your itinerary.
Set a Budget: Just like the wedding, plan how much you want to spend on your honeymoon.
14. Final Details and Confirmation
Create a Day-of Timeline: Outline when everything will happen, including hair, makeup, and the ceremony.
Confirm with Vendors: A week before, reach out to all vendors to confirm details and arrival times.
15. Get Excited and Enjoy!
Relax and Pamper Yourself: Schedule some self-care before the big day. You deserve it!
Have Fun: Plan a pre-wedding celebration, whether it’s a bridal shower or bachelorette party. Enjoy this special time with friends!
16. Post-Wedding Tasks
Send Thank-You Cards: After the wedding, be sure to thank everyone who attended and gifted you.
Preserve Your Dress: Consider getting your wedding dress cleaned and preserved for memories.
Planning a wedding is a journey filled with excitement, creativity, and, yes, a bit of stress. But with this checklist, you’ll stay organized and focused. Remember to savor every moment, lean on your loved ones, and keep the celebration at the heart of it all. Happy planning!
